Educating talented journalists specializing in health sciences

The Novo Nordisk Foundation’s six Constructive Fellowship grants were established with the aim of supporting the development of more insightful and constructive journalism within health sciences.

In the project, six talented journalist from the Danish media will have access to academic knowledge at the highest level within the health sciences, and they will be trained to improve the dissemination of research in the field and the debate on priority-setting in the healthcare system.

The project, which runs from 2019 to 2022, comprises two annual fellowships: the Novo Nordisk Foundation Fellowship on Health Science and the Novo Nordisk Foundation Fellowship on the Healthcare System of the Future. The first fellowship covers such themes as the ethical, human and economic aspects of stem cell research, robotic surgery and genetic engineering; and the second focuses on such themes as priority-setting, treatment versus prevention and organizational changes in the Danish healthcare system.

The six fellowships are hosted at the Constructive Institute. They are part of this organization’s work to change the global news culture so the media are not part of the problem of growing mistrust and polarization in society globally. Rather, they can be part of the solution by assisting the democratic process through knowledge-based, constructive and critical journalism.
